Health Issues That India Doesn't Talk About, But Needs To Immediately

Postby shahrukh » Tue Aug 16, 2016 2:01 pm

There are so many illnesses in India and other countries that have stigma attached to them. We all need to take our health seriously and not take it casually. We have listed few health issues which might sound familiar but haven’t got enough visibility and it is high time to start raising the awareness.

1. Epilepsy

According to statistics it is the most common neurological disorder after migraine and stroke. Epilepsy is a chronic illness and it can be extremely unbearable. Though anti-seizure medication is the most common way to control the illness, the side effects can be extreme amongst those who require a high dose — exhaustion, memory problems, and the "clarity and speed of thinking" are the most debilitating.

2. Mental illnesses in children

We have started talking about mental illness openly, thanks to celebrities like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra who have been a help in breaking the stigma. But mental issues regarding children are still a huge issue and not much talked about. According to the research, fifty percent of mental disorders are established by age 14, but they often go unnoticed and untreated.

3. Hypertension

Hypertension — commonly referred to as ‘high blood pressure’, it is also one of the most neglected illnesses, despite being curable. It's possible to have hypertension for years and not realise it because not everyone shows symptoms of the disease. For many people with the disease, a combination of lifestyle changes and medication can be hugely beneficial. Although hypertension is very common, it often goes un-diagnosed for years and isn't necessarily viewed as an extremely dangerous condition.
