7 Reasons Why Getting Moody Sometimes Is Actually A Good Thing

Postby jeevan » Wed Nov 28, 2018 12:30 pm

Why is it okay to be happy, excited and joyful, but anything that falls outside of that spectrum is met with silence? Considering Homo Sapiens are, in fact, as moody as they come if not more, our treatment of it leaves something to be desired. Even a temporary phase of sadness is treated like a 'disorder'. It is by applying 'good' and 'bad,' and 'black' and 'white' to something as complex as human emotions that we're setting ourselves up for failure. By wanting to be happy always, we're only suppressing the different emotions that come with our existence. This post is for all those people who are labelled moody and hence, difficult to deal with.

If you're moody, don't beat yourself to it because there are many advantages that come with it. We've enlisted them all for you!

Here are seven reasons why being moody can be a good thing. Because those in a mood...

1. Communicate more effectively

When the end goal is to achieve a result, and quickly so, the 'moodier' in the lot skip past the flowery language and say it as it is.

2. Judge more accurately

A darker mood tends to filter out the biases by a whole lot. This is because they process details better.

3. Are more likely to take risks

Living in a bubble of constant happiness means, overtime, we become comfortable. This, in turn, comes in the way of us achieving our goals or doing what we first set out to do.

4. Are more motivated

Some experiments suggest that those in a bad mood were able to negotiate difficult situations better by trying harder and persevering.

5. Treat others with more fairness

According to some studies, those with a mild bad mood pay closer attention to social norms and expectations. This has a direct effect in the way they interact with others: they treat them with more fairness.

6. Identify threats better

Back when the man was learning to invent the wheel, relying on happiness alone would've made our ancestors more open to threats from predators because their guard would've been down. Meanwhile, today, by relying on our darker emotions, we're able to steer clear of modern ills like overeating and over-drinking.

7. Don't bargain easily

... which can also be a good thing considering everyone has their own ambitions and goals to achieve.
