Having contributed greatly to cinema in his 15-year long career, Aamir Khan was awarded the 4th highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri.

After a hiatus of three years post Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai, Aamir returned with Mangal Pandey: The Rising in 2005, a film that paid homage to the freedom fighter, Mangal Pandey, the driving force of the 1857 rebellion against the British Empire.
