Meher Malik, a professional belly dancer, has been an instructor at Banjara School of Dance, India's first and largest belly dancing school for over seven years.
Meher, who is trained in the authentic, oriental belly dancing style called Raqs Sharqi, gives training in that particular style as well as in other fusion forms one of which she invented all by herself.
We spoke at length to her about the different fusion forms and particularly about 'Bellywood', which she created after she learnt that her students could not related to the original belly dancing style.
She also shared with us some of the various misconceptions that people have vis-a-vis belly dancing. And in her interview with us she broke all the stereotypes that people tend to associate with the dance form.
